Luke Fulton Interview

By Ross Measures ⋅ May 23, 2009 ⋅ Post a comment

Luke Chillin

Luke Fulton is a Victoria local. He came down to California with us in December and shredded every spot as hard as anyone on the trip. He’s one of those kids who flies under the Radar, shredding without a lot of exposure. This year he has picked up the support of a few great companies and is ready to shred. The other day Luke fell and hurt his back pretty badly, ill let him tell you about it..

On may 19th after work I went riding at my buddy mark matthews jumps in Victoria, we dug for about and hour and then started to ride. I hit the hip line a few times and then I wanted to try flipping the straight trick jump. It is a bigger jump and I hadn’t flipped a big jump for a while so after a few straight runs I thought I had it. I tried to flip really slow… apparently not. I flipped way to fast and over rotated. I threw away the bike when I was level then landed directly flat on my back on the landing it was probably the scariest fall I have ever had. I had the wind knocked out of me for so long I wish I just passed out. After a good hour of laying there I got up and drove home in the excuciating pain because I did not want to call an ambulance to these secret trails. One ambulance ride from home, an xray, and a cat scan later, I found out I had compressed my t7, t3 and maybe t2 vertabrae and am out for 6 weeks. Sadly, after not even being back on my bike for a month after fracturing my scaphoid. I realise it could have been a lot more severe and am very thankful for all my amazing friends and family who have given me a ton of support. They are the ones that have helped me get through this and I cant wait to be back on the bike again!

What are your plans for the rest of the season?

Once Im healed up Im going to be guiding for the Whistler bike park. I am also going to head down to to Winterpark for Crankworx Colorado. In the fall I am going to be filming a video segment with Aaron Larock for his new project. Throughout the summer and fall I will be digging and building new lines.

Shout outs?

I would like to thank so many people; Ryan at Geax, Andrea and Dave at Sombrio, Dan from Cove Bikes, Gabe at Smith Optics, Clayton from Sun Ringle, Michael at Dakine, and My Mom and Dad for supporting me through everything, I can’t thank you enough!

Here are some Rad photos of Luke shredding pre-injury. Credits go to Mike Zinger for the Rad Photos. Check out his website here.

Mark Mathews has put together a Jam to help Luke get by while he misses work. Check it out here. Jam page on Facebook.
